 Taste the different and unique flavors of our five single origin hot cocoas in this cozy collection!

Most hot cocoa on the market today is made by one of only a handful of large chocolate companies, then resold in bulk to smaller suppliers who put their own label on it.  It's also alkalized with potassium carbonate, a process which strips out not only most of the beneficial flavanols, but also most of the flavor.  You'll also usually find additives such as soy lecithin and, believe it or not, vanilla.  The end result is a highly processed product which tastes more like additives than it does actual cocoa.


But we make this hot cocoa ourselves, using the same fine flavor, single origin beans we use to craft our award-winning chocolate bars.  We're actually one of the only chocolate makers in the world to do this, since it's a very time consuming and difficult process.  But, the results are worth it - each of these hot cocoas is bursting with it's own unique, single origin flavors.

To make this cocoa we first roast our single origin beans using the same roast profiles we use for our chocolate, and winnow them to remove the shells.  They're then ground in our stone grinders, which develops the flavors and creates liquid cocoa (referred to as "cocoa liquor").   We press the liquor under very high pressure to separate out the cocoa butter, and the resulting block of 100% cacao is ground to create cacao powder.  The final step is mixing in just the right amount of sugar - enough to enhance the flavors without making the hot cocoa too sweet.

This is truly a unique tasting experience for hot cocoa aficionados since single origin hot cocoa isn't very common.  For best flavor we recommending mixing three tablespoons of hot cocoa with one cup of 2% or whole milk.  Since our hot cocoa isn't alkalized you'll need to whisk it vigorously to ensure it's fully dissolved.

Once you try any of these delicious and creamy varieties

you would be hard pressed to purchase any brand at a grocery store. I have tried each flavor, and I enjoy them all. each one is slightly different and look forward to enjoying a cup any time of the day but especially while relaxing at the end of the day.

I really enjoyed tasting the difference in the chocolate from the various countries.

My favorite is the one from Mexico. I have only tried the cocoa mixes using milk. I think you could use the various cocoa mixes as a geography lesson for kids. They could find the different countries on a world map. This idea comes from me being a former teacher.

Delicious hot chocolate!

One of my true delights in life is a good cup of hot chocolate. I came across Goodnow Farms when scouring the internet for new kinds of hot chocolate to try. At first, I bought the 3 pack sampler and quickly fell in love. Since then I have been purchasing the 5 pack sampler. I don’t really have a favorite as they are all delicious in their own subtle, distinct way. This will make a cup of rich, chocolately flavored goodness but without the sickly sweetness that usually accompanies most commercial hot chocolate. I use a Breville hot chocolate maker to prepare it with milk and a beautiful cap of chocolately foam resides on top. If you are a connoisseur of hot chocolate, add this to your list- you will not be disappointed.

The BEST hot cocoa!

Goodnow Farms seriously makes the BEST hot cocoa. I love them all, and my favorite is Almendra Blanca -- delicious! All are creamy and rich with an unbelievable froth. My only wish is that these would be available in much larger sizes!

I can only attest to the outtacontrolness of the Mexican hot chocolate. Have not tried the other two countries, yet. The smoothest, most delicious hot chocolate I've ever tasted in my 59 years. (FWIW, I have bought plenty of what I thought would be bigshot fancypants hot chocolate, but it always turned out only the packaging was bigshot fancypants.) This is the real deal. P. S.
