We make our delicious hot cocoa from the same premium single origin beans we use to make our chocolate, so each variety has it's own unique flavor profile!  This Esmeraldas hot cocoa is made with our directly sourced beans from Costa Esmeraldas Cacao.

We're one of only a few chocolate makers who press their own cocoa butter.  One of the many benefits of this time consuming process is that we're able to make this rich, incredibly flavorful hot cocoa mix from scratch right here in our kitchen.

Most hot cocoa is alkalized, which means it's washed with a solution of potassium carbonate.  This allows the cocoa powder to dissolve in milk or water more easily, but significantly alters the flavor.  Alkalizing also removes a significant amount of the natural flavanols, which are compounds that play a significant role in the beneficial effects of eating cacao.

Our cocoa is NOT alkalized.  You may need to stir a your hot cocoa a bit more vigorously but you'll taste the unique flavor of the beans, and get the full benefit of cacao's flavanols!

The Best Cocoa Ever (Not to Mention the Chocolate Bars)

A few years ago I got interested in bean to bar chocolate and tried a few bars. From early on I loved the Goodnow Farms single origin chocolate bars. They have rich, complex flavors and they're as smooth as silk. So, finally, I decided to branch out and try the cocoa. I took a chance and bought the five pack. So glad I did. It, along with the chocolate bars, has become a staple in my diet. Most mornings I start the day with a cup of Goodnow Farms cocoa (I prefer it to coffee) and dessert most nights is two or three small pieces of a Goodnow bar. It’s so enjoyable I don’t need much to be perfectly satisfied.
