*** This bar used to be part of our Signature Line, but unfortunately the farmer has stopped harvesting these beans and is selling his farm. We have a few bars left, but not enough to order Signature Line wrappers, so the remaining bars are packaged in Limited Release wrappers. If you’re a Coto Brus fan get these before they’re gone since there won’t be any more unless something changes. And, if you’re interested in purchasing a beautiful cacao farm in Costa Rica please contact us and we’ll put you in touch with the farmer (seriously!). ***
Coto Brus is the only bean from Costa Rica awarded an official “Heirloom” designation in recognition of its incredible flavors. It is one of only 15 cacaos in the world recognized as Heirloom.
The beans are cultivated, harvested, fermented and dried on a small farm in Southern Costa Rica by brothers Giovanni and Raul Campos Portilla, with help from Giovanni’s son Raul.
For more information about this bean and pictures from our trip to the farm see our Coto Brus page!
Flavor notes: Caramel, plum and cocoa.
Ingredients: Cacao Beans, Organic Sugar, Single Origin Cocoa Butter (Coto Brus)
May contain trace amounts of peanuts and tree nuts.
Clearly defined flavour notes. Like a warm buttermilk stewed plum/prune pie, served with vanilla buttermilk cream and butterscotch sauce. Decadence for sure!
Loved it!! We tried 10 different dark chocolate bars and all of them were amazing.
Coto Brus has the most delicious toffee flavors. I hope this heirloom cacao will find a devoted new grower!
If I did a blind taste testing, I think I could tell which one Coto Brus is. Distinct flavor that quietly spreads on your palate. Just worth it!
it is the best dark chocolate though expensive.
